This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.
Today's the day when a few people will feel very special and a lot of people will feel pretty miserable. One or two people will actually go as far as to send themselves a card so that when it arrives through the letter box everybody else thinks they've got a secret admirer! One way or another, Valentine's Day is an emotional day for many people. Some people always have their emotions hanging out like washing on a line. Other people hide them away where nobody can see. One thing's for sure, God made you with emotions. The Bible's full of them! Your mind might jump to Psalms as the 'emotional' bit of the Bible, but feelings run right through it, and not just human feelings.
Early on in the story of God and His creation we get the sense that when God made us 'in His image' (Genesis 1:26-27) it involved blessing you with His ability to 'feel'. That sets you apart from all the rest of creation, you are a special person for God, so behave like you are, don't do the thinks the world tell you to do, just because it's tradition, custom, or because your friends do it, like buying flowers, chocolates, gifts and all this things that many people do just to impress one to another on Valentine's Day, do all things with love, share this day like any other day of our lives, loving everyone as Jesus loves us, that's what's important, not just today but every single day of our lives, all the material things don't make any difference, let the world know about the real everlasting love that many people is seeking today, the Love of Jesus.
In his letters the Apostle John shares loads about love, he had a special revelation about the way it flows directly from God's heart to ours, '...God is love...' he wrote (1 John 4:16), going on to add 'Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him' and underlining that 'We love because he first loved us.'
